The Indiana University Alumni Association has a brand-new website. Central to the site is the Spirit of IU, an interactive, online game that allows users to share their IU experiences through photo communities, groups and even contests. The site, launched this week, contains frequently updated information about campus news, alumni, faculty and students.

The Indiana University Center for Law, Ethics and Applied Research in Health Information announced today (June 2) the appointment of George P. Smith II as its first visiting fellow. Smith, a professor at the Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law, is an internationally recognized scholar whose work focuses on the intersection of law and health care, specifically bioethics and health law.

Five Indiana University Maurer School of Law alumni have been inducted into the Law School's Academy of Law Alumni Fellows. Induction into the academy is the highest honor the Law School can bestow on its graduates.

Judge Ezra "Zeke" Friedlander has spent more than a decade combing through auction lists searching for memorabilia from the United States Supreme Court. After years of pursuing his collecting passion, Friedlander has donated his sizable collection to the Indiana University Maurer School of Law, which is displaying most of the items in its nationally recognized Law Library. The framed collection includes signatures of U.S. Supreme Court justices, a pleading by Justice John Marshall dating from 1785, and a letter written by Justice William O. Douglas to an official at Indiana State University.

Three alumni from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law were honored Friday (Oct. 8) with prestigious Distinguished Service Awards. The awards were established in 1997 to recognize Indiana Law graduates who have distinguished themselves in service to their communities and the IU Maurer School of Law in ways that exceed expectations in the course of their business, professional or civic duties.

Many of the country's top intellectual property scholars and practitioners are expected to convene at the IU Maurer School of Law on Sept. 23-24 for a major conference on patent law. The conference coincides with the 20th anniversary of the publication of "On the Complex Economics of Patent Scope," a seminal work in the field of patent law by Robert P. Merges and Richard R. Nelson.
