Three Indiana University Diversity Committees are scheduled to meet in October.

The IU Bloomington Diversity Committee will meet Thursday (Sept. 24) at noon in Room 256 of the Department of Communication and Culture building, 800 E. Third St. At IU South Bend, the campus Diversity Committee will meet on Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. in Room 3300 of Wiekamp Hall.

Myles Brand, who served as Indiana University's 16th president from 1994 to 2002 and president of the National Collegiate Athletic Association since January 2003, died today (Sept. 16) at the age of 67.

Michael A. McRobbie, president of Indiana University and chair of the IU Foundation board, announced that the Foundation has elected two IU trustees to its board of directors and elected Harry Gonso as vice chair. Trustees William R. Cast, M.D., and Tom Reilly Jr. join trustee vice chair Patrick A. Shoulders on the Foundation board. Gonso was elected to the Foundation board in 1990 and re-elected after serving as chief of staff for Gov. Mitch Daniels.

William R. Cast, M.D., has been elected to a two-year term as president of the Indiana University Board of Trustees. Cast, a Fort Wayne physician and surgeon, succeeds Stephen L. Ferguson, who steps down after serving two consecutive two-year terms as president.

The Indiana University Board of Trustees will meet Thursday and Friday (Aug. 13-14) at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

Dr. William R. Cast, a Fort Wayne physician and surgeon, has been nominated to serve as president of the Indiana University Board of Trustees for 2009-11. The board's nominating committee also nominated Patrick A. Shoulders of Evansville to serve as vice president.

The Indiana University Board of Trustees today (July 16) adopted a budget plan for the 2009-10 academic year that includes several belt-tightening measures but still allows for increases in student financial aid on all campuses and provides funding to fill more than 100 faculty positions deemed critical to the university's academic mission.

Indiana University trustees July 16 approved tuition and fee rates for the 2009-10 and 2010-11 academic years that were in keeping with all guidelines set by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. The new fee schedule calls for in-state undergraduate tuition and fees to go up by 4.6 percent this year and 4.8 percent next year at IU Bloomington and IUPUI. At IU's five regional campuses, in-state undergraduate tuition would go up 4.4 and 4.6 percent respectively in the next two years.

The Indiana University Board of Trustees will meet on Thursday (July 16) in Indianapolis to conduct a public hearing on proposed tuition and fees for the next two academic years and then convene to also diliberate on a budget plan for 2009-10.

The Indiana University Board of Trustees Nominating Committee will meet at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday (July 16) to discuss a slate of officers for 2009-2011. The meeting will be held in Room 310 of the Campus Center at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, and via conference call.

Abbey Stemler, a second-year law student at the IU Maurer School of Law, has been appointed by Gov. Mitch Daniels as the new student member of the Indiana University Board of Trustees.

The Indiana University Board of Trustees will conduct a public hearing on Thursday, July 16, to hear student and public comment on proposed tuition and fees to be set for all IU campuses for the next two academic years. The hearing will be at the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis Campus Center.

Indiana University President Michael McRobbie today (July 6) announced that he will recommend to IU trustees a balanced program of spending restraints and tuition increases below the maximum 5 percent level recommended by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education.

Indiana University alumni elected Philip N. Eskew Jr. to a second three-year term as an IU trustee today (June 30). Eskew, who was first elected in 2006, received 9,173 of the 29,300 valid votes cast.

All Indiana University campuses will continue to operate under their existing budgets after Tuesday, June 30, if there is no state budget enacted for the new fiscal year. Summer classes will continue and employees will continue to be paid. The authority to continue operations was approved today (June 26) in a special meeting of the IU Board of Trustees Finance and Audit Committee, chaired by Trustee Thomas E. Reilly Jr.

The Finance and Audit Committee of the Board of Trustees of Indiana University will hold a special meeting by telephone conference on Friday (June 26) at 8:30 a.m. in Room M005 of the Indiana Memorial Union on the IU Bloomington campus.
