Vice President and Director of Athletics Fred Glass announced today (August 23) that legendary IU coaches Bob Knight (basketball) and Jerry Yeagley (soccer) will headline the 2009 Indiana University Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame inductee class. They join former Hoosier standouts Steve Downing (men's basketball, 1971-73), Katrin Koch (women's track and field, 1989-92), Joe Norman (football, 1975-78), the late Mike Rabold (football, 1956-58), and Alan Somers (swimming, 1961-63) as honorees. The class will be officially inducted at the annual Hall of Fame dinner on November 6, and will be recognized at halftime of the football game against Wisconsin at Memorial Stadium, the following day.

Indiana University announced today (Aug. 13) that a new game day traffic plan will be implemented for the 2009 football season. The new plan is the product of a collaborative effort between Indiana University and several key partners. "I would like to thank President McRobbie and the Board of Trustees for their leadership in focusing us all on the issue of game day traffic," said Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Fred Glass.

Less than 72 hours after completing his second round at the 109th U.S. Open, 19-year-old David Erdy was back at it again, teeing off in Peru, Ind., for the -- coincidentally -- 109th Indiana Amateur. His love for the game of golf is obvious, as was his love for Indiana University at the U.S. Open in Bethpage Black, New York, with Erdy sporting his Cream and Crimson gear for much of the PGA major tournament.

Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie and senior officials in the Department of Athletics said that for the most part they are satisfied with the conclusions contained in the final report of the NCAA's Committee on Infractions, which was released today Nov. 25. McRobbie said the committee's decision clears the way for IU Men's Basketball Head Coach Tom Crean to proceed at full speed with his rebuilding program without having to worry about any further sanctions or penalties being imposed by the NCAA.

John Pont, who coached the Indiana University football team to its only Rose Bowl appearance, died today (July 1) in Oxford Ohio. He was 80.

Tom Crean, who averaged over 20 wins a season in nine years at Marquette and led the Golden Eagles to five NCAA Tournament appearances including the 2003 Final Four, has been named the 28th head basketball coach in Indiana University history, IU President Michael McRobbie and Director of Athletics Rick Greenspan announced on Wednesday.

While the IU Circle of Life Mini Marathon and 5K races at Indiana University Bloomington have been moved from September to April, they will feature a familar face from the fall collegiate sports scene. IU head football coach Bill Lynch will be a part of the IU Circle of Life Mini Marathon and 5K races on Saturday, April 5.

Former Indiana running back Anthony Thompson was honored at the National Football Foundation's 50th Annual Awards Dinner in New York City last night (Dec. 4) for his election to the College Football Hall of Fame. The two-time All-American was one of 12 players and two coaches to be inducted in the 2007 class. He is the sixth Hoosier to be awarded this honor.

The Indiana University Trustees today (Sept. 22) approved an estimated $55 million athletic facility enhancement plan for the IU Department of Athletics. The plan calls for the renovation of one existing facility and the construction of three others.
