Indiana University's 2009 Ethics Bowl team placed third last week in the Central States Ethics Bowl Regional competition, ensuring its place in upcoming national competition. The team is comprised of five undergraduate students and is sponsored by the Poynter Center for the Study of Ethics and American Institutions at Indiana University.

The Indiana University Student Media Board has chosen junior Brad Zehr of Fort Wayne, Ind., as the Indiana Daily Student editor-in-chief for spring 2010 semester.

A new study conducted by the Indiana Prevention Resource Center (IPRC) at Indiana University's School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation shows that alcohol abuse among IU Bloomington students has markedly decreased, even as alcohol abuse among college students across the nation is on the rise.

Indiana University Bloomington students will come together Nov. 13 for the 19th annual IU Dance Marathon (IUDM), a 36-hour fundraiser that benefits Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. More than 2,000 students are expected to participate in this year's Dance Marathon, which begins at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, and ends at 8 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, at the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER).

Indiana University will join college campuses throughout the country on Thursday, Nov. 12, in a friendly competition to break the Guinness World Record for the largest collection of food for the hungry in 24 hours.

Alina Fernandez, the outspoken daughter of former Cuban President Fidel Castro, will speak at Indiana University Bloomington Nov. 18, 7 p.m., in the Indiana Memorial Union's Whittenberger Auditorium. Indiana University Athletics Director Fred Glass will speak with students at the Indiana Memorial Union Market on Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. This is a free event arranged by the Indiana Memorial Union Board to allow students to contribute to the future of the IU athletics experience.

The Indiana University Advocates for Community Engagement (ACE) Program today announced the selection of 25 students charged with serving as liaisons between local nonprofit agencies and the more than 80 IU Bloomington service-learning courses during the 2009-10 academic year.

Contrary to what many observers think, findings from a national study released today (Oct. 26) show that gathering information about what undergraduates learn during their studies is commonplace in most U.S. colleges and universities. However, the results are not always used and reported in ways that could improve student accomplishment and inform the public about institutional performance.

The Indiana Memorial Union Board is currently accepting applications for this year's Live From Bloomington (LFB) CD through Oct. 28. Artists and bands are only allowed one submission each for a fee of $10. IU Bloomington was selected to host the Victoria's Secret 2009 PINK Nation Party during a nationwide online competition among five American universities.

Indiana University President Michael McRobbie announced today the appointment of IU Bloomington senior Miles Taylor as the university's inaugural Presidential Student Intern. Taylor, from La Porte, Ind., is a Wells Scholar with a 4.0 grade-point average and was recently honored with the prestigious Harry S. Truman Scholarship.

Indiana University Bloomington's 2009 freshman class includes 82 National Merit Scholars, a 37 percent jump from last year. The scholars -- who as a group were in the top 3 percent of their high school classes with an average high school GPA of 3.93 -- come from 16 states and have with an average SAT score of 1,473 and an average ACT score of 33.

From the start of new student move-in day at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, Indiana University will strive to make incoming freshmen and returning students feel at home on campus through "Proud Traditions: Welcome Week 2009," coordinated by the IU Office of First Year Experience Programs.
