The Indiana University Building Corp. Board of Directors will meet on Friday (Nov. 20) at 4 p.m. in Bryan Hall 114 on the IU Bloomington campus.

Just over five and one-half years ago, on April 2, 2004, to be exact, the Indiana University Board of Trustees gave its approval for the construction of a Medical Education Center at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW.) That approval was just the beginning: Indiana's Commission for Higher Education approved the project in December 2004, and in July 2005 the State Budget Committee approved giving $12 million to IU to fund the construction. Construction on the building began in 2007 and was finished earlier this year.

Originally known as the IU vs. Purdue Blood Donor Challenge, Indiana University continues saving lives this year in the renamed 13th annual IU Blood Donor Challenge. The nationwide challenge will run through Nov. 13.

Three Indiana University Diversity Committees are scheduled to meet in October.

Nearly 30 years after its founding, an alumni organization that helps to steward Indiana University's African American legacy has planned a major celebration and reunion Oct. 29-Nov. 1 in Indianapolis.

Myles Brand, who served as Indiana University's 16th president from 1994 to 2002 and president of the National Collegiate Athletic Association since January 2003, died today (Sept. 16) at the age of 67.

Indiana University set enrollment records this fall for the university as a whole and for several campuses, according to official fall 2009 census figures released today. A record 107,160 students were enrolled in Indiana University -- a 5.3 percent increase from the previous record set a year ago, when enrollment topped 100,000 for the first time.

Indiana University has launched IU Mobile, a Web service designed specifically for smartphones and similar mobile devices. The URL is simply m.iu.edu, and the service offers convenient online access to information about IU and all its campuses, including news, campus alerts, a student and staff address directory and Oncourse, the university's collaboration and learning environment.

Jeffrey M. Linder, a senior executive at Clarian Health Partners Inc., has been named to the position of associate vice president for state government relations at Indiana University. Linder will form a state relations team with John Grew, who was recently promoted to the position of executive director of state relations and policy analysis. The team will serve as the university's primary representatives to all state departments and agencies as well as the Indiana General Assembly.

In response to the growing challenges focused on global energy acquisition and use, close to 200 faculty from every campus at Indiana University will gather Aug. 6-7 to begin the process of formulating a comprehensive energy research plan for IU.

Indiana University Foundation President Gene Tempel announced today that Marsha (Marti) Heil will join the Foundation as senior vice president for development on Oct. 1. Heil was selected after a nationwide search.

Indiana University's new enterprise license agreement with Microsoft Corp. will expand the path-breaking 1998 strategy to provide popular Microsoft products to all students, faculty and staff on IU campuses by including unlimited licenses and software maintenance to IU departments for server software such as SQL Server, Windows Server, SharePoint Server, and Configuration Manager Server.

Two Indiana University diversity committees are scheduled to meet on (Thursday) June 18. The IU East Commission on Diversity and Equity will convene from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Community Room of Whitewater Hall on the Richmond campus. At IU Northwest, the Diversity Annual Report Committee will meet from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in Hawthorn 469 on the Gary campus.

Indiana University graduates and their families can still expect a traditional and stately commencement complete with pomp and circumstance, even though congratulatory handshakes from the president, chancellors and deans will be missing as part of ceremonies that will be held throughout the coming week, May 9-15, at all eight IU campuses.

A total of 16,901 students are eligible to receive Indiana University degrees during May commencement ceremonies at eight campuses. Commencement week begins on May 9 (Saturday) at IU in Bloomington and concludes on May 15 at IU East in Richmond (Friday).
