Ballet Theater presents edgy new choreography at Buskirk-Chumley

Showcasing recent work by up-and-coming regional choreographers, Indiana University Ballet Theater will present "Ballet at the BCT: On the Edge" on Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater in downtown Bloomington. General admission tickets are $10, and tickets are $5 for all students with a valid student ID.  Full Story

 Coffeehouse Nights @ the IU Art Museum brighten Thursdays in January

The IU Art Museum kicked off its spring "Coffeehouse Nights @ the IU Art Museum" Thursday, Jan. 15, with harp music and ancient art. Two more Coffeehouse Nights -- which are free and open to the public -- are scheduled for this month: English art in the first floor gallery with traditional English drinking songs, and South Pacific art on the third floor with hula dancing accompanied by ukulele.

 Comedian Jen Kober to perform Southern style comedy at Indiana University Kokomo

Small-town comedian Jen Kober will bring her Southern style comedy to the Indiana University Kokomo campus on Jan. 28. Her show has been described an an original blend of stand-up, story telling and improvised rock 'n' roll comedy. Raised in a small Louisiana town, it is from her southern upbringing and values that Kober draws her material -- as well as a love for food.

 Getting to know Indiana’s poet laureate

Indiana Poet Laureate Norbert Krapf, a Jasper native, now lives in Indianapolis and is a frequent collaborator with Indiana University faculty. His new work, Bloodroot: Indiana Poems (a collaboration with prize-winning photographer David Pierini, who for 10 years worked for The Herald in Jasper), was published in 2008 by IU Press. In a Q-and-A, Krapf describes his process, his passions, and his greatest inspirations.

 IU Opera presents 'Cinderella story' "Cendrillon"

IU Opera Theater presents a new production of Jules Massenet's Cendrillon (Cinderella), based on the original fairy tale, on Feb. 6, 7, 13 and 14 at 8 p.m. in Bloomington's Musical Arts Center. The production includes new set and costume designs by IU's C. David Higgins.

 IU African American Choral Ensemble to present concert, “Pressing Forward -- No Turning Back"

African American Choral Ensemble

Indiana University's African American Arts Institute will present a free concert of traditional and contemporary gospel music on Feb. 22, in the Grand Hall of the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center. The African American Choral Ensemble's repertoire resonates with the complexities of the black American experience.

 Ag Apparel designer Jordan Silver is breaking ground

At just 28, Indiana University alumna Jordan Silver has already launched a successful special-needs clothing line and been featured in "O, the Oprah Magazine." Silver's line of clothing, The Element of Ag Apparel, debuted at the Abilities Expo in New Jersey in spring of 2008. Last June, she was one of 80 women (chosen out of over 3,000) to attend Oprah's women's leadership conference in New York City.
