IU will celebrate 25th annual ArtsWeek

Ice Sculpture Starting Feb. 19 and continuing through March 1, Indiana University will present the 25th annual ArtsWeek, a winter festival showcasing an array of arts, entertainment and discussion surrounding the theme "Politics and the Arts." One of this year's ArtsWeek highlights will be a sneak preview of The People Speak, a documentary film directed by Howard Zinn (author of A People's History of the United States and Voices of a People's History), Anthony Arnove (co-author of Voices of a People's History) and Chris Moore (producer of Good Will Hunting and Project Greenlight).  Full Story

 Jacobs School students prepare for Kennedy Center performance

Eight students from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music will perform a concert on Feb. 17 at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., for an audience of aspiring young artists and music connoisseurs.

A new exhibition at IUPUI's Herron School of Art and Design highlights sculptural practices that incorporate non-traditional materials, kinetic parts and unusual installations.The exhibit, "David Bowen and Jason Hackenwerth," is open now through March 7 in the Eleanor Prest Reese & Robert B. Berkshire Galleries at IUPUI in Indianapolis.

 An IU class trip to Disney -- for course credit

In January, David Grindle took his "Theme Park Entertainment Management" class to Walt Disney World in Orlando for five days. "I wanted them to get the idea more ingrained that artistic integrity is our top goal, after safety," said Grindle, who teaches stage management courses in the Department of Theatre and Drama. "They also saw professional managers dealing with problems in a professional way."

 Theatre and Drama opens spring season with acclaimed 'Stop Kiss'

Simultaneously a valentine and a warning, Diana Son's sweetly arresting Stop Kiss explores the highs and lows of contemporary urban life. Swinging back and forth in time, the play revolves around a brutal beating that occurs when two young women are seen kissing on a park bench in Greenwich Village.

 Author Joyce Carol Oates will read, lecture at IU Feb. 16

Called "one of the greatest writers of our time" by the late novelist John Gardner, award-winning author Joyce Carol Oates will read and lecture at Indiana University's Indiana Memorial Union on Feb. 16 at 5 p.m. The lecture is part of a "Cultural Conflicts" series presented by the College Arts and Humanities Institute (CAHI). CAHI is financed by IU's College of Arts and Sciences to foster interdisciplinary research and cooperation among arts and humanities faculty.
