IU Opera Theater brings a fairy tale classic to stage
Feb. 6-7 and 13-14, various times, Musical Arts Center, Bloomington -- Unlike the Rossini version, the carriage and the glass slipper are back in Cendrillon -- a famous romantic fantasy based on the Cinderella fairy tale. After much beautiful music, magical developments and all the elements that make up such tales, the lovers are reunited and all live happily ever after.

IU will celebrate 25th annual ArtsWeek

Starting Feb. 19 and continuing through March 1, Indiana University will present the 25th annual ArtsWeek, a winter festival showcasing an array of arts, entertainment and discussion surrounding the theme "Politics and the Arts." One of this year's ArtsWeek highlights will be a sneak preview of The People Speak, a documentary film directed by Howard Zinn (author of A People's History of the United States and Voices of a People's History), Anthony Arnove (co-author of Voices of a People's History) and Chris Moore (producer of Good Will Hunting and Project Greenlight).

In January, David Grindle took his "Theme Park Entertainment Management" class to Walt Disney World in Orlando for five days. "I wanted them to get the idea more ingrained that artistic integrity is our top goal, after safety," said Grindle, who teaches stage management courses in the Department of Theatre and Drama. "They also saw professional managers dealing with problems in a professional way."

Swinging back and forth in time, the play revolves around a brutal beating that occurs when two young women are seen kissing on a park bench in Greenwich Village.

Called "one of the greatest writers of our time" by the late novelist John Gardner, award-winning author Joyce Carol Oates will read and lecture at Indiana University's Indiana Memorial Union on Feb. 16 at 5 p.m. The lecture is part of a "Cultural Conflicts" series presented by the College Arts and Humanities Institute (CAHI). CAHI is financed by IU's College of Arts and Sciences to foster interdisciplinary research and cooperation among arts and humanities faculty.
