IU's Singing Hoosiers perform at Inaugural Ball in D.C.

Singing Hoosiers When the Indiana Society of Washington, D.C., began planning the entertainment for its inaugural ball last June, organizers knew where to look first -- they contacted the Jacobs School of Music's choral department.  IU Opera Theater to stage politically charged love story 'Giulio Cesare'

In a perfect complement to ArtsWeek 2009's "Politics and the Arts" theme, the political power struggles of ancient Egypt -- and the passionate love affair between the iconic figures Cleopatra and Cesare -- will come to life on the stage of Indiana University's Musical Arts Center when the Jacobs School of Music stages Giulio Cesare, one of George Frideric Handel's most popular operas.

 Department of Theatre and Drama presents Oscar Wilde's 'An Ideal Husband'

"An Ideal Husband"

Insider trading. Blackmail. A marriage on the rocks. It was originally published in 1895, but the themes of Oscar Wilde's An Ideal Husband are as relevant today as when Wilde originally wrote about them. An Ideal Husband is staged by Indiana University's Department of Theatre and Drama as part of IU's 25th annual ArtsWeek celebration.

 Baroque Orchestra to perform 're-discovered' work last staged in 1741

In a unique collaboration between the IU Jacobs School of Music's Early Music Institute and musicology professor Lawrence Bennett at Wabash College, Ind., the IU Baroque Orchestra and singers from the Jacobs School will offer two semi-staged performances of Ignaz Holzbauer's dramatic opera Hypermnestra.

 IUPUI grad turns weight-loss experience into humorous book and blog

Half-Assed

Author, blogger and "cynical optimist" Jennette Fulda is not shy about her weight loss. In her book, Half-Assed: A Weight-Loss Memoir, Fulda takes the reader through her nearly 200-pound weight loss from morbidly obese to half her weight. "I can't guarantee that it will make you lose weight, but you will laugh," says Fulda of her memoir.

 SoFA Gallery showcases Iraq images, rapid prototyping art, screenprints during ArtsWeek

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot

As part of Indiana University's Arts Week (Feb. 19-March 1), IU's School of Fine Arts (SoFA) Gallery offers three upcoming shows: photojournalist Ashley Gilbertson's "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot," images chronicling America's early battles in Iraq and leading up to the country's first national elections; "Rendering and Meaning," a collection of traditional ceramics and pieces that explore rapid prototyping technology by Malcolm Mobutu-Smith and Anton Rejinders; and "Mille-fleurs" by Eva Wylie, a collection of screenprints that combines the natural world and the constructed environment.
