IU Opera Theater to present collegiate premiere of 'The Light in the Piazza' this summer

Light in the Piazza Continuing its tradition of offering operatic premieres, the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music will present the collegiate premiere of the celebrated musical The Light in the Piazza (music and lyrics by Adam Guettel) in a brand-new production during the 2009 IU Summer Music Festival.  Maya Angelou visit highlight of IU's 25th Annual ArtsWeek celebration

In one of the signature events of Indiana University's 25th Annual ArtsWeek, the legendary author Maya Angelou will appear at IU Auditorium in Bloomington today, March 5, at 7 p.m. The event is co-sponsored by Union Board. Angelou's visit was initially scheduled for March 1 but has been rescheduled. Tickets for admission already issued for the March 1 lecture will be honored at the time of the March 5 lecture, and ticket exchanges will not be required.

 International actor Tim Hardy to perform, speak at IUPUI

In film, he has appeared in Captain Corelli's Mandolin. In opera, he has played bass leading roles in The Magic Flute and Don Giovani. On the stage, his theater credits include Henry V. Now, internationally known actor Tim Hardy will appear at IUPUI for a one-week residency.

 A new 'Swan Lake' centerpiece of IU Ballet Theater's Spring Ballet

In its 2008-2009 season finale, Indiana University Ballet Theater presents "Variations on a Russian Theme," with a new, contemporary classical version of Swan Lake and a world premiere choreography by Matthew Neenan, March 27 and 28 at the Musical Arts Center.

 IU to host its first World Language Festival

With its first-ever World Language Festival, March 7, Indiana University Bloomington will welcome high school students from across the state to learn about subjects as diverse as traditional African drum and dance techniques, ancient Chinese calligraphy, Slavic languages, Germanic celebrations, common French gestures and current cultural issues in the Middle East.

 Spring exhibitions at the IU Art Museum

Beginning March 6, the IU Art Museum will display two new exhibitions: "From Pen to Printing Press: Ten Centuries of Islamic Book Arts" and "Transcendent: The Photographs of Hiroshi Sugimoto." These exhibitions, along with a special installation currently on display, will run through May 10.

 ABBA homage 'Mamma Mia!' returns to IU Auditorium

Mamma Mia!, the wildly popular musical based on the songs of '70s pop sensation ABBA, returns to IU Auditorium Friday, March 6 for a three-day run. Seen by more than 30 million people around the world, Mamma Mia! was originally created by ABBA members Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus.
