Freshman basketball players pass first test
There are few college sports programs that can boast an equal level of tradition, success and passionate fan support to Indiana basketball. As a result, playing basketball at IU provides a student-athlete with a unique set of opportunities and challenges, including dealing with media. Indiana senior defensive end Jammie Kirlew is one of 30 NCAA football student-athletes tabbed as a candidate for the 2009 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior in the Football Bowl Subdivision and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence -- classroom, character, community and competition. This year, the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA) will honor Indiana University's Grace Calhoun with its Nell Jackson Award. The award is given annually in honor of women's track and field pioneer Nell Jackson, to an athletics administrator who demonstrates qualities such as courage, conviction and perseverance, and who is an advocate for gender equity and diversity.
