The annual Dr. Martin Lurther King Jr. Celebration will again include the interfaith prayer service on Jan. 18 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in the Indiana Memorial Union's Whittenberger Auditorium in Bloomington. The interfaith prayer service is a gathering that celebrates and increases awareness of various faith traditions through reflective prayers, music and the spoken word. The event is free and open to the public.

Indiana University's 26th Annual ArtsWeek, scheduled for February Feb. 18-28, will focus on the theme "Arts and the Environment." ArtsWeek is an annual winter festival showcasing the many levels of artistic expression in Bloomington and on the IU campus. Sponsored in part by the IU President's Office and the IU Office of the Vice Provost for Research, ArtsWeek offers dozens of exhibitions, performances and family-friendly events featuring many modes of artistic expression.

A cappella group Straight No Chaser will perform at Indiana University Auditorium April 12 at 8 p.m. The concert will feature songs from the band's newest contemporary album, which is scheduled for release in April by ATCO/Atlantic.

The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music will host the First Indiana Guitar Festival and Competition March 27-28 with plans to continue the festival annually. It is the only guitar festival and competition in Indiana and only the second guitar festival in the Midwest.

Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis will house a new editorial project that will change the way Shakespeare is presented to the world. The Oxford University Press project will result in The New Oxford Shakespeare, an entirely new print and digital edition of the complete works of the most influential writer in the English language.

Indiana University Bloomington will present a symposium and film series in honor of the East German Cinema of the DEFA Studios, bringing to light a group of overlooked films made between 1988-1994 that reflect life surrounding the toppling of the Berlin Wall in 1989. "WENDE FLICKS -- Last Films from East Germany," curated by the University of Massachusetts DEFA Film Library, will play at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater from Jan. 17-March 28 and on the IU Bloomington campus in the Fine Arts Auditorium through April 18.
