With pieces that range from an interpretation of the game "rock/paper/scissors" to football as a metaphor for human interaction, the original work of emerging choreographers and composers studying at Indiana University will be performed in the two-part "Hammer and Nail" program on two consecutive evenings at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. The programs are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on both April 15 and 16. Admission is free, and both cash donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted for the Hoosier Hills Food Bank.

IU Jacobs School of Music prepares to dedicate Seward organ
For the first time in its history, the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music has an organ of international distinction to equal the outstanding caliber of its organ faculty and students. A gala concert dedicating the new Maidee H. and Jackson A. Seward Organ, planned for Friday, April 30, at 8 p.m. in Auer Hall, will be repeated on Saturday, May 1, at 8 p.m., and on Sunday, May 2, at 4 p.m. All performances are free but require tickets distributed from the Musical Arts Center Box Office beginning Monday, April 19.

At IU, Dave Neustadter was an orientation leader, a volunteer for IU Dance Marathon and a student manager at IU Auditorium. A chance meeting at the Bloomington restaurant where he waited tables after college led to an internship at New Line Cinema. Today, the cinephile is living his dream in Hollywood as an executive at New Line. His upcoming films are a new A Nightmare on Elm Street and Going the Distance starring Drew Barrymore and Justin Long.

The Indiana University Art Museum has a new exhibition currently on display titled "The Great American Sketchbook: Drawings from the August L. and L. Tommie Freundlich Collection," featuring the work of 26 American masters. "The Great American Sketchbook" is on display in the Special Exhibitions Gallery and will be installed through May 30.

The music of composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim will fill the air at Indiana University Bloomington this month, with an IU Opera Theater production of West Side Story and a Department of Theatre and Drama production of A Little Night Music, both playing this weekend (April 16-17).

IU senior James Brosher was honored with the Indiana News Photographer Association's 2009 College Photographer of the Year award. The contest is open to both professional photographers and college students and includes awards in the categories of Photographer of the Year, Sports Photographer of the Year, Portrait-Personality and Feature Story, among others.

While researching a book about the renowned Nigerian artist Prince Twins Seven-Seven, Indiana University Professor Emeritus Henry Glassie spent countless hours with the artist, both in Africa and in the United States. Glassie will return to Nigeria to see the artist installed as the Mogaji -- or clan head -- of the Osuntoki family in Ibadan. Glassie's new book Prince Twins Seven-Seven: His Art, His Life in Nigeria, His Exile in America (IU Press) details the artist's rise, fall and re-emergence.

In her new book, The Social Work of Museums (Routledge Press), former IU Bloomington professor Lois H. Silverman combines two long-held passions: her fascination with the importance of museums in society and a desire to write a book. "This book demonstrates how museums all over the world are engaging in social service: they are benefiting human relationships and fostering social change, the very goals that social workers have always pursued," Silverman said.
