Behind the scenes at IU Southeast's Ogle Center

Jay Moore With six people, the Paul W. Ogle Cultural and Community Center crew at Indiana University Southeast may be small, but that doesn't stop it from successfully running more than 100 shows per season. Jay Moore, technical director of the Ogle Center, and his assistants Joey Leezer and Derek Young, often run two or more shows in a day. It may sound like a challenge to some, but Moore -- who has worked at the center since it opened in 1996 -- has created his own formula for success.  Full Story

 Researching art's geneaology

Since the late 1990s, art museums across the country have been making a concerted effort to research the provenance of their pre-1945 objects in order to determine whether any object was illegally transferred or looted during World War II, when art looting was rampant in Europe. The Indiana University Art Museum (IUAM) began systematically researching the provenance of paintings in its collections three years ago and has been at the task ever since.

 Photographs serve as historic snapshots in time

New York Kiss

A naked and terrified Vietnamese girl, her skin ablaze, runs from a village that has been bombed with napalm. A sailor and nurse celebrate the end of World War II with a passionate kiss in New York City's Times Square. These moments are historic snapshots in time -- literally. Each produced a famous photograph that transcended the moment and took on a life of its own. Photojournalism and documentary photography do more than help us remember powerful moments. These "visual rhetorics" also provide us with a way of seeing ourselves as a democracy and disseminating democracy's core principles to others.
