Martha Nussbaum to give lectures
Feb. 12, 14, 7:30 p.m., Chemistry room 122, Bloomington -- Professor Martha Nussbaum, a philosopher and influential intellectual from the University of Chicago Law School, will present two Patten lectures, titled "Constitutions and Capabilities: History of an Idea" (Feb. 12) and "Capabilities and Today's Supreme Court" (Feb. 14). Both lectures are free and open to the public.

IU’s annual ArtsWeek celebration examines politics and the arts

Get ready for an expressive week as "Politics and the Arts" are explored during the 24th annual ArtsWeek, Bloomington's winter festival of the arts. ArtsWeek, a collaboration between the City of Bloomington and Indiana University, offers exhibitions, performances, discussions and family-friendly events using many modes of artistic expression. No longer able to contain itself, ArtsWeek now spans 11 days, from Feb. 20 to March 1, with a few events following on March 2.

This is the final weekend to see A Wedding, the third of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer William Bolcom's operas to have its collegiate premiere at Indiana University. When the curtain rises, it will reveal the final creations of illustrious set designer Robert O'Hearn, who retires following the opera's run, at the age of 86.

The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music is once again sweeping the Grammy Awards, with three recordings up for a total of five awards at this year's ceremony, taking place Feb. 10. Representing a diverse array of styles from contemporary classical to Spanish opera to experimental a cappella, the nominated recordings highlight the wide range of strengths at the celebrated school.

With the 80th Annual Academy Awards slated for Feb. 24, Live at IU turned to film experts at Indiana University Bloomington to determine the classic movies that everyone should see or even add to their film collection. The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music continues IU's Moveable Feast of the Arts Series with the final of three performances this season at the Ogle Center on the campus of IU Southeast in New Albany, Ind.
