FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Aug. 19, 2008

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Whether you're an NPR junkie, a Broadway musical lover or a toddler who never misses "Bob the Builder," IU Auditorium's 2008-2009 season has something for you.

The season opens with comic icon and five-time Grammy-winner Bill Cosby (Sept. 19), followed a few days later by an evening with country crooner Vince Gill (Sept. 24). The fall lineup includes three award-winning Broadway musicals: Sweeney Todd (Sept. 30-Oct. 1), Hairspray (Oct. 21), and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (Nov. 18-19). A few audience members will even be pulled to the stage to showcase their spelling skills in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Feb. 3-4).

Single tickets to IU Auditorium's 2008-2009 season go on sale Friday, Sept. 5 at the Auditorium Box Office. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Auditorium staff will be available in the lobby and in the box office to assist with orders and answer questions about the new season.

"We have put together a collection of amazing shows that will bring our diverse community together for a true celebration of the arts and entertainment," said Doug Booher, director of the IU Auditorium. "I'm thrilled about our 2008-2009 lineup."

The 2008-2009 season offers 15 top Broadway, comedy and dance performances, music ranging from country to classical and special Halloween and Christmas shows.

Dennis James

Dennis James will accompany "Nosferatu" on the organ Oct. 29.

Among this season's family fare are Bob the Builder Live! (Jan. 29) and the beloved IU holiday tradition Chimes of Christmas (Dec. 10), featuring the IU Jacobs School of Music Wind Ensemble, Trombone Choir and Grammy-nominated Singing Hoosiers. On Oct. 29, prepare to be scared at our Halloween show with Dennis James, an IU grad famous for his skill playing live music for silent films. He returns to play live as the audience watches the classic vampire film Nosferatu. And and on Nov. 17, experience the world renowned Staatskapelle Dresden (the Saxon State Orchestra), founded in 1548 and called "the best in Europe" by Beethoven in the early 19th century.

Performing this spring will be the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange (Feb. 26), presenting "a modern dance masterpiece on the frontiers of molecular biology;" South African a capella group Ladysmith Black Mambazo (March 2), who have frequently recorded with Paul Simon; and Terry Gross, host of NPR's "Fresh Air" (April 8), sharing clips and comments about some of her most memorable interviews. Finally, if you're a closet ABBA fan or loved seeing Mamma Mia! on the big screen, get tickets to the smash-hit musical of the same name, returning to IU Auditorium for five performances (March 6-8).
