Indiana University honored for excellence in fund raising

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 18, 2009

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- For the fourth time since 1999, Indiana University has received national recognition for excellence in fundraising from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

The organization presents the CASE -- WealthEngine Awards for Educational Fundraising annually to educational institutions with outstanding fundraising programs and results. Indiana University received the award for Overall Performance in the Public Research/Doctorial Institutions category. IU won the award in 1999, 2000, 2005, and again this year for fiscal year 2008 results.

According to CASE, "Judges select winners based on a solid pattern of growth in private support, breadth in fundraising programs, number of donors, large gift impact and other evidence of a mature, comprehensive, and successful fundraising program."

IU's gift totals have increased from $71.9 million to $251.4 million from 1998 to 2008. Total Voluntary Support, which includes non-governmental research grants as well as gifts, grew from $141.7 million to $408.6 million over the same time period. In fiscal 2008, both gift and Total Voluntary Support figures were records for IU.

Indiana University ranks second in the Big Ten, third among public universities, and 11th among all colleges and universities in the nation in the amount of support it received from the private sector in fiscal 2008. IU consistently ranks among the Top 20 public and private colleges and universities in the nation -- the top 2 percent -- in Total Voluntary Support.

IU Foundation president Gene Tempel credited IU's success to the support of generous donors, the momentum of the Matching the Promise fundraising campaign for the IU Bloomington campus, and the work of deans and development officers at IU's campuses and at the IU Foundation.
