NRADAN is the only national program addressing the challenges of alcohol and other drug abuse in rural communities. It is a private, non-profit foundation that promotes networking between rural programs and professionals along with providing liaisons to key federal and state government agencies and private resources.

Now in its 25th year, the institute highlights the latest evidence-based practices for the improvement of rural services for addiction treatment and prevention of substance-use disorders. At its annual conference, key professionals from throughout the United States present intensive study tracks, special topics and mini-workshops on current and emerging issues in the field of alchol and other drug abuse. Nationally known plenary speakers highlight the latest research and practices, providing up-to-date education for more than 250 attendees.

Owens served for 20 years as the leader of the Prevention Track at the institute and four years as the program chair. She is a 1995 recipient of the Harold E. Hughes Exceptional Rural Professional Award -- one of several honors awarded at each annual Institute.

With a passionate commitment to rural issues and extensive experience in the field of prevention, intervention and treatment of alcohol and other drug abuse, Owens will provide strong leadership for NRADAN and the Institute.
