Lohrmann received the award, given this month during the AAHE's annual meeting in San Diego, in recognition of career scholarly contributions to the profession. As part of the honor, he gave the Scholar Award presentation, "Thinking of a Change: Health Education (AAHE) for the 2020 Generation."

The AAHE is a national organization dedicated to developing standards and policies among health educators, and those who promote health through education. This is done through a variety of outreach and advocacy programs, as well as the sharing of ideas and resources from scholars in the field. In 2009, Lohrmann also received the William A. Howe Award from the American School Health Association.

His additional awards and service include the following:

  • Former President, American School Health Association
  • Primary consultant for an Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development project, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
  • American Cancer Society Award of Excellence
  • Indiana University Trustees Teaching Award

In addition to his research in the areas of school health education, alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse prevention, Lohrmann is interim chair for the Department of Applied Health Science and also its graduate coordinator. He received his Ph.D. at University of Michigan.
