Doctoral student Peder MacLellan wins principal tuba position with Vancouver Symphony Orchestra

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Peder MacLellan, doctoral student and associate instructor of tuba and euphonium at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, recently won the principal tuba position with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra beginning in the 2011-12 season.

MacLellan, a student of Jacobs Professor Daniel Perantoni, is currently principal tuba with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra and Bay Street Brassworks.

"The tuba studio at Jacobs is very proud of Peder and congratulates him on his success," Perantoni said.

A native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, MacLellan earned his bachelor's degree in music performance from the University of Manitoba. He earned a master's degree from the Jacobs School and is in the process of completing a doctorate in tuba performance.

Versed in all genres of music, MacLellan is a prominent freelance musician throughout Indiana and an active studio musician in Indianapolis. He has performed throughout Canada and the United States in various chamber music settings, symphony orchestras, wind ensembles, big bands and small group jazz ensembles.
