Fifteen other CASE V awards presented to IU

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Dec. 19, 2005

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Publications at Indiana University for alumni, faculty and staff -- including the Indiana Alumni Magazine -- were honored for excellence at the annual conference of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, District V.

The Indiana Alumni Magazine, which is published by the IU Alumni Association and has a circulation of 70,000, received a gold medal in the Best Alumni/Institution Magazine category and a silver medal for Most-Improved Alumni/Institution Magazine. The magazine was redesigned in fall 2004 under the leadership of editor-in-chief Elizabeth E. "Lissa" Hunt. She died in June after a six-month battle with lung cancer.

For its 150th birthday celebration in 2004, the IUAA received two awards: a gold medal for Best Practices in Alumni Relations and a silver medal for Excellence in Special Events, Series of Events.

"The high honors for the magazine are a testament to the excellence and hard work of editor-in-chief Mike Wright and his staff and to the memory of Lissa Hunt," said Ken Beckley, president and CEO of the IUAA. "The recognition of the exhaustive efforts of Heidi Wisen in coordinating the IUAA's yearlong birthday celebration is well-deserved. Sharing in the accolades are birthday committee chair Sandy Obremskey, alumni staff statewide and hundreds of volunteers."

IU Home Pages, the university's faculty and staff newspaper, received a silver medal in the Best Tabloid/Newsletter for Internal Audience category. Its photographer, Chris Meyer, received two honors: a gold medal for Best Individual Photo-Candid and a silver medal for Best Photo Series-Candid.

In addition, 15 other awards recognized creative writing and design efforts by the IU offices of creative services and marketing and the IU Foundation, including four gold medals, five silver medals and six bronze medals. The awards were presented in Chicago on Dec. 13.

The CASE V region includes colleges and universities throughout the Midwest. Its 462 member institutions include all the universities of the Big Ten conference and several Indiana colleges and universities.
