Issues in Education

Media seminar to feature Indiana University education and experts and School of Education announcement

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- From developing new tech high schools to rolling out full-day kindergarten, public K-12 educators face a variety of tough issues each school year. Indiana University experts are ready to help reporters sift through the intricacies of public education policy. Get ahead of the curve this school year by spending a day learning about 2007-08 issues in education.

Indiana University has organized a one-day seminar, "Issues in Education," to help reporters tackle the complex topics involved with educating children in Indiana and across the United States. Faculty experts will draw from their research and service as they discuss the following topics: launching new tech high schools, evaluating charter schools, educational issues before the state legislature, the school funding forumla, high school reform and creating small learning communities. In addition, IU School of Education Dean Gerardo González will announce a new initiative.

The casual setting will allow for an easy exchange between reporters and faculty. Reporters will be able to get sound bites, quotes, contacts and a deeper understanding of some of the challenging issues of the day.

The seminar is scheduled for July 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Room 4095 of the Business/SPEA Building, 801 W. Michigan St., on the campus of Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis. Registration and a continental breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m. The $30 registration fee includes a catered lunch and breakfast and reservations are due by Friday, July 13.

This mailing includes a brief biography of the presenters and a registration form that should be returned by Friday, July 13. The registration form also can be accessed at https://newsinfo.iu.edu/news/page/normal/5938.html. To view the agenda, click here: https://newsinfo.iu.edu/news/page/normal/5941.html.
