FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Feb. 20, 2009

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie presented the Sue H. Talbot Distinguished HHE Member Award to Community Captains Pat and Ken Shidler of Bloomington, at a ceremony Tuesday in Indianapolis. The presentation was in conjunction with the 18th Annual Hoosiers for Higher Education Statehouse Visit.

This award was developed to honor the significant contributions of founding HHE director and current IU Board of Trustee member Sue H. Talbot, who was responsible for the development and execution of the master plan that created one of the very first university-based grassroots organizations in the country.

Because of her organizational and leadership skills, HHE became one of the "best practices" government relations programs in America. More than 9,000 students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of IU from throughout the country are now members of HHE. The award was established to recognize a volunteer member who has provided dedicated leadership in advocating for IU and higher education.

Pat Shidler received her IU degree from the College of Arts and Sciences, and her husband, Ken, is a graduate of the Kelley School of Business. The Shidlers retired to Bloomington in 1992 and are very active in numerous volunteer and IU-related activities.

Pat and Ken are members of the IU Varsity Club, serve on the board of the Monroe County Chapter of the IU Alumni Association and Pat is the HHE Representative for the board. Ken works part time for the Kelley School of Business as a career counselor. Pat currently works as the hospitality coordinator for the Southern Indiana Methodist Conference.
