Indianapolis -- Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie has taken the first step toward establishing academic partnerships with Bogazici University, often described as Turkey's most prestigious institution of higher education.

McRobbie signed an "agreement of friendship and cooperation" with Bogazici President Kadri Ozcaldiran during his visit to IU on Feb. 25.

Ozcaldiran also met with a number of IU faculty and administrative leaders to discuss ways in which IU will work with Bogazici to establish multiple linkages, including ones in anthropology, Turkish Studies, history, business and education, as well as a philanthropic studies program. The program would be the first of its kind in Turkey, where there is a strong desire for the creation of such a national resource.

IU's Center on Philanthropy on the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus is considered to be a leader in the field of philanthropic studies.

Bogazici University, which has about 11,000 students, offers a number of highly regarded programs in arts and sciences, business, public administration, education and engineering. Through this new agreement, IU and Bogazici will work toward identifying support for faculty exchanges, scholarships and research programs.
