Bloomington on the run

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 26, 2010

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The spring racing season is in full bloom as runners and walkers line up for a variety of races organized or partially supported by the Indiana University community. Whether for a charitable cause, fun with friends, scenic routes, stress relief or exercise, running or walking can be a great way to stay in shape, raise money and create community involvement and fellowship.

For some races, from popular 5Ks to 26.2-mile marathons, organizers encourage participants to collect pledges, set up fundraising pages, make donations or pay registration fees that go toward humanitarian causes. Jennifer Hurtubise, a coordinator for the Coach Hep Indiana Cancer Challenge, said that any form of support for their cause is as helpful as running the race.

"If your students can't participate in the Challenge they can help by eating at Bucceto's on April 6," she said. "All they have to do is mention the Coach Hep Challenge when paying and 20 percent of their bill will be donated to our event -- every dollar donated brings us a mile closer to reaching our goal."

Below are some of the races being held this spring:
