IU's WTIU introduces radio personality Pam Thrash as new co-host of 'The Weekly Special' TV program

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 27, 2010

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Public television station WTIU announced Monday (July 26) that radio DJ Pam Thrash is the new co-host of "The Weekly Special," a program that looks at issues, events, people and other buzz-worthy topics in South and Central Indiana. Thrash will join Joe Hren as co-host for the local magazine program that is broadcast weekly on Thursday evenings at 8 p.m. (with a rebroadcast on Fridays at 6 p.m.).

The first "Weekly Special" co-starring Thrash and Hren airs this Thursday, July 29, with topics that include "MCCSC Funding Update," "Indiana's Fireflies" and "Bees and Beekeeping."

"Being immersed in this community is very important to me," Thrash said. "I feel that 'The Weekly Special' has a lot to offer and that the program will broaden me and the viewers as well. I look forward to exploring the stories and experiences that make South and Central Indiana such a great place to live."

Originally from Muncie, Ind., Thrash brings more than two decades of media experience to the position at WTIU. She is well known as host of the Retro Lunch Hour on the Bloomington radio station B97 and from her numerous live appearances at Bloomington-area events.

"All these years Pam hid behind the radio microphone and DJ booth," Hren said. "If you like her personality now, wait until she's in front of the camera talking about the places, people and events that make 'The Weekly Special' unique. I know our viewers are going to have just as much fun watching as we will have putting the show together."

WTIU, a PBS television station owned and operated by Indiana University, serves over 350,000 households in West and South Central Indiana. WTIU airs programming on four digital channels 24 hours a day, and produces local, regional and national programs.

The Weekly Special is an eclectic local magazine program that looks at issues, events, people and things of interest in our twenty-county broadcast area and airs on Thursday evenings at 8 p.m. with a rebroadcast on Friday evenings at 6 pm.
