Indiana University Health officially adopts new name

Indiana's most comprehensive healthcare system shares vision to provide one standard of high quality, patient-centered care

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jan. 26, 2011

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana University Health, formerly known as Clarian Health, held a special dedication ceremony this week to officially adopt its new identity. Staff members, patients and representatives from Indiana University Health and its hospitals across the state, Indiana University School of Medicine and Indiana University celebrated this important milestone.

IU Health Opening

IU President Michael McRobbie spoke at a recent dedication ceremony at the newly named Indiana University Health, formerly known as Clarian Health.

The name Indiana University Health affirms the health system's unique partnership with Indiana University School of Medicine -- one of the nation's largest medical schools -- and is aligned with its vision to provide one standard of preeminent, patient-centered care to the people of Indiana and beyond.

"We are very proud of our new name, Indiana University Health. Becoming Indiana University Health is about much more than a new name, new logo or new signs on buildings. It's about our patients and our commitment to them," said Daniel F. Evans, Jr., president and chief executive officer, Indiana University Health. "It's about assurance -- assurance that our patients and their families will receive the best possible care, wherever and whenever we serve them across Indiana."

"As one of the nation's leading medical schools, it is our mission to advance health in Indiana and beyond by promoting innovation and excellence in education, research and patient care. We partner with Indiana University Health in that mission," said Dr. D. Craig Brater, dean, Indiana University School of Medicine, and vice president for university clinical affairs, Indiana University. "Together, we are training the physicians of tomorrow and making a commitment to the education and training of the doctors our state needs today and in the future."

The name change will not impact the existing corporate structure of the organization. Indiana University Health will remain an independent, non-profit health system with the Methodist Church and Indiana University Board of Trustees serving as corporate board members, and will retain the same board of directors. Dan Evans will continue to serve as the health system's president and chief executive officer.

"The leadership of Indiana University Health has been and will continue to be a great partner in supporting Indiana University's mission of educational and research excellence," said Michael McRobbie, president, Indiana University. "Indiana University Health will also continue to take the nationally-recognized clinical and research capabilities of the IU School of Medicine under Dr. Brater's leadership to nearly every corner of the state."

The new identity -- Indiana University Health -- more clearly defines the health system's mission and statewide focus, and results from the most significant market and customer research in its history, which gathered insight from thousands of patients and their families, referring physicians and staff members across the state.

The names of all hospitals within the health system will align with the Indiana University Health name, yet maintain their local identities.
