Media advisory: 2011 Little 500 is next weekend

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 8, 2011

Editors and reporters: Media credentials and infield passes are required for the following 2011 Little 500 events: the Women's Little 500 Bicycle Race (Friday, April 15, at 4 p.m.), the Men's Little 500 Bicycle Race (Saturday, April 16, at 2 p.m.) and the Little Fifty relay race (Thursday, April 14, at 7 p.m.).

Credentials and infield passes will be issued only to working members of the media. Please fill out the attached form for your newspaper, magazine, Internet news site, radio station or television station. List, if possible, the names and assignments of those who will use the passes.

Applying for credentials: To secure credentials, complete the form and return it to George Vlahakis at the IU Office of University Communications. You can do so by e-mailing a completed version of the attached form to gvlahaki@indiana.edu. You also can fax it to 812-856-4265. You can also mail it to: Little 500 Credentials, Indiana University Office of University Communications, 530 E. Kirkwood Ave., Suite 201, Bloomington, IN 47408-4003.

The deadline for credential requests is noon on Friday. We reserve the right to limit the number of passes issued to any one organization. Call 812-855-0846 during normal business hours or 812-345-1500 on race days if you have questions.

Every effort will be made to mail media credentials to those who request them early. Otherwise, they can be picked up at the Office of University Communications -- located at the corner of Kirkwood and Indiana avenues in Carmichael Center, Suite 201 -- until noon on April 15.

After noon on April 15, credentials will be available at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Please call George Vlahakis at 812-345-1500 (m) if you will be arriving after the race begins.

Parking for media: Special arrangements have been made for marked television vehicles -- particularly live satellite trucks -- to use the parking lot of St. Paul's Catholic Center, 1413 E. 17th St. This parking will provide easy access to the facility for live news broadcasts. All other media will need to use public parking lots across from Armstrong Stadium on Fee Lane. There is no charge for parking.

Photography: Media credentials will provide photographers with extensive access to the track, including the infield. For their safety and those participating, all infield spectators, including the media, will need to stay within the safety line located 10 feet in from the edge of the track, except during the photo lap as guided by track officials. In most cases, still photographers and reporters will not be permitted to cross the track during the race to enter or exit the infield. No one will be given access to scaffolding and towers.

Only those who have submitted written requests will receive credentials. Please be prepared to show identification when you pick up the passes.
