IT at IU has found a home
Today (Aug. 1), 16 months after the first shovel broke ground, the new concrete, limestone, steel, and glass Cyberinfrastructure Building (CIB) is opening its doors, ending a nearly 10-year search for a solid and sustainable workplace for IT staff at IU Bloomington.
This move marks the end of IT's 25 years in the Wrubel Computing Center, which over time became inadequate to protect IU's substantial IT investment. The CIB joins the IU Data Center and the IU Innovation Center within IU Technology Park East at 10th Street and Ind. 45/46 Bypass.
IT staff will now have an open floor plan that facilitates an interactive work environment and greater opportunities for collaboration. The CIB, which is working toward LEED certification at the Gold level, also brings the university a new energy-efficient, sustainable building model.
IT staff will complete their move from Franklin Hall, Poplars, and the IT buildings in the Wrubel complex to the CIB in mid- to late August.
The video "IT on the Move" recounts the long path to the CIB.
A formal building dedication is scheduled for Oct. 12, 2011.
