Annual Law Day at IU Bloomington set for Oct. 25

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Oct. 13, 2011

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A record number of law schools will again take part in the Indiana University Bloomington Law Day, an opportunity for students to meet recruiters and learn, first-hand, about admission procedures and requirements.

The event features a law fair with representatives from 121 law schools -- more than half the law schools in the U.S. and one more than the previous IU record of 120 schools set last year. It will be the world's largest law fair for the seventh year in a row.

The 2011 event, which will take place Oct. 25 at the Indiana Memorial Union, 900 E. Seventh St., is organized by the Health Professions and Prelaw Center at IU Bloomington. It includes:

  • The IU Law School Fair, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Alumni Hall. Students will may pick up materials, souvenirs and information and meet one-on-one with law school representatives, who can answer questions about LSAT scores, grades, financial aid and personal statements.
  • A panel discussion and Q-and-A session titled "What REALLY WORKS in a Law School Application," featuring law school admission deans including Frank Motley of the IU Maurer School of Law, from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in Whittenberger Auditorium.
Law Day

Students talk face-to-face with law school representatives at a previous IU Law School Fair.

"Students at IU Bloomington are incredibly fortunate to be able to take advantage of the fact that more of the nation's finest law schools come to Bloomington than to any other university in the country," said Mac Francis, director of the Health Professions and Prelaw Center. "Other students simply do not have this invaluable opportunity to see what the schools have to offer, to learn about schools they had not considered before and to make that all-important personal connection to the school's representative."

According to the Law School Admission Council, about 3,000 IU Bloomington students representing 53 majors are potentially interested in law school. Competition for admission remains extreme, and attendance at Law Day events can give students a competitive edge.

A list of law schools registered for the 2011 IU Law Fair is available at https://hpplc.indiana.edu/law/LawDay2007.shtml. More information about Law Day is at https://hpplc.indiana.edu/law/law-lawday.shtml.

The Health Professions and Prelaw Center, a division of the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, provides pre-professional advising and services for students interested in pursuing careers in law, medicine and other health fields, assisting them throughout their undergraduate years to become well informed and well prepared about requirements for the careers.
