Student social media correspondent, zip-lining mascots and volunteers keep IUPUI at center of Super Bowl activity

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Feb. 1, 2012

INDIANAPOLIS -- The clock is ticking down toward the biggest sports event in Indianapolis' history, with tens of thousands of visitors coming to town and millions more who will make a "virtual visit" via international TV broadcasts -- and IUPUI is in the heart of it all.

Michael Hadley

IUPUI student Michael Hadley is tweeting and blogging about his Super Bowl experiences.

When it comes to keeping your ear to the ground for tweets and blog posts about the New England Patriots' stay in Indianapolis, there is no better place to start than with IUPUI student and social media correspondent Michael Hadley. A history major, Hadley is embedded at the University Place Conference Center and Hotel, where the AFC champions are staying. Hadley is tweeting and blogging about his experiences at twitter.com/SuperIUPUI and superiupui.blogspot.com/.

At 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, IUPUI mascots Jawz and Jinx will take a trip down the Super Bowl zip line, beginning their trip near the Georgia Street entrance to the Indiana Convention Center. IUPUI's social media team will be tweeting and posting video and photos.

All in all, nearly 300 IUPUI alumni, students, faculty and staff are part of the event, including working for the city's Super Bowl committee; volunteering in the Super Bowl Village; staffing high-profile events such as the "Taste of the NFL"; manning booths in the NFL Experience; and supervising exciting new facilities such as the Near Eastside Legacy Center -- facilities that will enhance the quality of life in IUPUI's home town far beyond the Feb. 5 showdown between the New York Giants and the New England Patriots in Lucas Oil Stadium.

Keep updated on all IUPUI and Super Bowl-related happenings with the Twitter hashtag #SuperIUPUI.

The IU School of Physical Education and Tourism Management has been particularly involved in this super event. Read more here.
