A gift from M.O. Yousuf, a 1976 graduate of the Kelley MBA program, will help the school and the Institute of Business Administration at the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh rekindle a partnership that dates back to the presidency of the late Herman B Wells, who was IU's president from 1938 to 1962.

Yousuf is the son of the late M. Osman Ghani, president emeritus of the University of Dhaka. Ghani and Wells forged a personal and professional relationship that served as a catalyst for the establishment of the Institute of Business Administration, and this fellowship serves to honor and celebrate the collaboration.

The Institute for International Business at the Kelley School will serve as the host for the Wells-Ghani faculty fellows during their visit to campus. Visiting fellows will spend three weeks on the IU Bloomington campus and will be provided the resources, access and opportunity to learn business education practice and techniques from some of the world's top faculty.

Upon their return to the Dhaka campus, the Wells-Ghani fellows will provide a symposium to share their experiences and insight with faculty from universities throughout the region.

The establishment of the Wells-Ghani Fellowship was announced during a special ceremony at the University of Dhaka on March 1, on what would have been Ghani's 100th birthday.

The event also included prepared remarks from Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., who noted, "It is equally true in Indiana as it is in Bangladesh that education is the key to a life of successful service for individuals and for building prosperous economies. I am pleased to see the spirit of education and partnership inspired by Herman B Wells and Dr. Ghani are being continued today."

The Wells-Ghani Fellowship is another example of how the Kelley School has continued to see its international partnerships flourish.

"It is indeed a great honor for us to have this relationship between the Kelley School and the University of Dhaka made possible by the generous support of Osman Yousuf," said Kelley School Dean Dan Smith.

"It is our vision that the Herman B Wells-M.O. Ghani Faculty Fellowship will provide support for faculty from the University of Dhaka that visit the Kelley School and spend time with our faculty and students," Smith added. "Yousuf has certainly contributed to advancing the international presence of the Kelley School while helping us all become better citizens of the world. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated alumnus."
