IU to announce site of 2006 National Science Olympiad on Nov. 7

MEDIA ADVISORY
Nov. 3, 2005

A press conference to announce the host city for the 2006 National Science Olympiad will take place at 10 a.m., Monday (Nov. 7), at the Sallie Mae Corporate Offices, 11100 USA Parkway, Fishers., Ind.

The president of the IU Foundation, Curt Simic, and IU's co-director of the National Science Olympiad, Jocelyn Bowie, will provide remarks. The Sallie Mae Fund will present a sponsorship check to underwrite part of the cost of the competition. The mascot for the 2006 tournament will be unveiled at the press conference. Sallie Mae will be represented by June McCormack, executive vice president.

Following the press conference, employees from Sallie Mae will go head-to-head with students from Indiana University in a brain-teaser game. The Science Olympiad draws 3,000 students from across the country to participate in the annual tournament.

The Sallie Mae Fund, a charitable organization sponsored by Sallie Mae, achieves its mission -- to increase access to a postsecondary education for America's students -- by supporting programs and initiatives that help open doors to higher education, preparing families for their investment, and bridging the gap when no one else can.
