Applications being accepted until Aug. 15 for 2006 IU Entrepreneurial Awards of Distinction

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Aug. 8, 2006

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Applications are being accepted until next Tuesday (Aug. 15) for the Indiana University Entrepreneurial Awards of Distinction, presented by the Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at IU's Kelley School of Business.

This is the second year for the awards, which recognize outstanding emerging and established companies within the state of Indiana for their achievements in growth, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit.

Donald F. Kuratko, executive director of the Johnson Center and the Jack M. Gill Chair of Entrepreneurship, said previous winners will face the same vigorous competition as they did a year ago.

"If a company comes back to us to apply for the same kind of award, they have to demonstrate what they've done differently in the past year to qualify for the award, or they must qualify in a different category," he explained. "We're trying to make this very specific. The companies must be able to articulate what is innovative or what is entrepreneurial special about them."

Nonprofit organizations also are invited to apply for the Social Entrepreneurship Award, which is presented to an organization with a social mission that demonstrates entrepreneurial excellence in innovation and/or spirit.

All public and private corporations, proprietorships and partnerships located in Indiana and founded prior to the 2003 fiscal year, with revenues greater than $1 million, are eligible to apply. Benefits to becoming an award finalist include:

  • 2 free tickets to the awards banquet on Oct. 19 at the Indiana Roof Ballroom in Indianapolis
  • Free informative sessions presented by peers and leaders in highly successful associations
  • Invitation to JCEI events
  • Opportunity to promote their organization statewide
