Arts administration certificate available to IU undergrads

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Oct 16, 2006

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs announced a new undergraduate Certificate in Arts Administration to be offered in the spring of 2007. The certificate program will combine management and arts administration courses from SPEA professors and business law faculty at the IU Kelley School of Business. Courses offered through the College of Arts and Sciences may also be counted toward the certificate.

The Certificate in Arts Administration program provides an option for arts majors who seek to complement their primary artistic interests with training in arts management. Charles Bonser, director of SPEA's program in Arts Administration, said that likely candidates for the certificate include majors in the areas of fine arts, theater, dance, music, art history, anthropology, archaeology, folklore and ethnomusicology.

"We are excited to be able to introduce this important new alternative for IU's sizable and talented group of students interested in a career in the arts," Bonser said. "We think it will well serve both the students and the arts industry."

For more information about the certificate, contact Arts Administration Program Coordinator Susan Sandberg at 812-855-7681 or sjsandbe@indiana.edu.
