BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A select group of high school students will be given a hands-on opportunity to explore the ever-evolving world of information technology at the Indiana University School of Informatics Summer Camp 2007.
The school is accepting applications for this year's camp, June 10-15, to be held at the IU Bloomington campus. The program is designed to give Indiana high school students the chance to interact with School of Informatics faculty and staff and learn about the latest trends in IT.
"The camp is an excellent opportunity for students to learn problem-solving skills and how information technology can be applied to many disciplines and career fields," says camp co-director Dennis Groth, assistant professor of informatics. "Campers also will have free time to participate in a variety of activities, including bowling, movies and swimming."
Students will work side-by-side with faculty and learn skills such as 2-D animation, Web design, human-computer interaction, data mining, virtual reality and chemical and data model visualization. Students will demonstrate the skills they have learned at a fair on the last day of camp.
Informatics is an evolving field that studies and explains the impact of information technology, and develops new uses for it in areas such as health, sciences, the arts, education, business and industry.
Admission to the camp will be limited to 20 students to ensure participants receive well-rounded instruction. Scholarships are available to qualified applicants. Admission criteria and applications also can be found online at http://www.informatics.indiana.edu/summercamp, or by contacting Beth Terrell at 812-856-1114.
