Listening tour gets input on Indiana health care reforms
Indiana residents are expressing their opinions about proposed health care reforms during the Healthcare Reform Options Listening Tour taking place across the state.
The listening tour, conducted by Indiana University faculty experts, began in late October and runs into December, with stops in 14 Indiana communities.
Among the proposed reforms are:
- Hoosiers will take an active role in preserving their own health and well-being, and work collaboratively with their health care providers to address health challenges.
- Hoosiers will have universal access, universal insurance coverage and effective access to all aspects of the health care system regardless of income, class, cultural identity or residence.
- Disease prevention and health promotion will be the primary foci of both the delivery and public health systems.
- All residents will have a medical/health care home, which will be the source of primary care, disease management and care coordination.
The recommendations were developed by the IU experts at the request of the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA). The IU experts include representatives from the IU Schools of Medicine, Law, and Public and Environmental Affairs. Earlier this year, the faculty experts conducted town hall forums across the state to listen to the views of Hoosiers on a wide range of health care issues.
Following the listening tour, the experts will work with FSSA to develop a legislative plan for proposed reforms.
