BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Michael A. McRobbie, president of Indiana University and chair of the IU Foundation board, announced that the Foundation has elected two IU trustees to its board of directors and elected Harry Gonso as vice chair.

Trustees William R. Cast, M.D., and Tom Reilly Jr. join trustee vice chair Patrick A. Shoulders on the Foundation board. Gonso was elected to the Foundation board in 1990 and re-elected after serving as chief of staff for Gov. Mitch Daniels.

"The IUF board provides oversight of IU's fundraising and endowment management partner," said McRobbie. "Philanthropy has played a critical role in bringing IU to the level of national and international preeminence that it enjoys today. Philanthropy will become even more important in the years and decades to come."

Since its establishment in 1936, the Foundation board has included trustees among its membership "in order to facilitate the working partnership between the university and the Foundation," said Gene Tempel, president of the IU Foundation. "Our directors welcome the insights and perspective the trustees bring to their deliberations."

Both Cast and Reilly were initially appointed to the Indiana University Board of Trustees by Gov. Mitch Daniels in 2005 and reappointed in 2008 for their second terms. Cast has recently been elected to a two-year term as president of the IU Board of Trustees.

Cast earned his medical degree from the IU School of Medicine and practices with ENT Specialists in Fort Wayne. He is also CEO of NoMoreClipboard, an online, patient-controlled personal health record management system. He was the founding chairman of DuPont Hospital in Fort Wayne and also the founding president of the pre-kindergarten through 12th grade Canterbury School.

Reilly is the retired chair of Reilly Industries in Indianapolis. He has served as chair of the Committee on Higher Education of the Indiana Government Efficiency Commission, chair of the Butler University Board of Trustees, and president and CEO of the American Chemistry Council. Reilly received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Gonso is a partner at Ice Miller LLP, an Indianapolis law firm. He also served IU as a trustee from 1976 to 1994. Gonso earned his bachelor's degree in business and his law degree from IU Bloomington. He succeeds August M. Watanabe, M.D. in the position of vice chair.
