BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University's Kelley School of Business will present a Sept. 18 speech by T. Boone Pickens live on the Web. Pickens is one of America's most successful businessmen and the founder of an ambitious, self-funded grassroots campaign aimed at reducing the nation's dependence on imported oil.

Pickens' lecture "America's Foreign Oil Dependency Crisis," which will begin at 10 a.m., will be presented live on the Internet at https://www.broadcast.iu.edu. An archived videostream of the speech will be available online by Sept. 22.

He will speak to university students, faculty and guests on the IU Bloomington campus at the IU Auditorium, 1211 E. Seventh St. Anyone who would like to be a guest at the lecture can make a request through e-mail to lforcum@indiana.edu.

The IU Kelley School of Business at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) has arranged for a special free viewing of Pickens' speech at the University Place Conference Center's auditorium, 850 W. Michigan St. Pre-registration is requested and can be done onsite starting at 9 a.m. Contact Dave Hosick, coordinator of communications and media relations with the Kelley School of Business at IUPUI, at dhosick@iupui.edu or 317-274-6856.

The IU Kelley School of Business made these special arrangements to accommodate numerous requests from alumni, educators at high schools and other university campuses, business people and others to hear Pickens' speech.

During his visit, Pickens also will meet with reporters beforehand. IU President Michael A. McRobbie will introduce Pickens.

For four decades, Pickens led Mesa Petroleum, an independent oil company that he founded in 1956, which went on to become one of the nation's largest and most well known independent oil exploration and production companies.

He subsequently became one of the most successful investment fund operators with BP Capital Management, which is valued at more than $4 billion and is principally responsible for the formulation of the energy futures investment strategy of the BP Capital Commodity Fund and the BP Capital Equity Fund. Through Mesa Water, Pickens is the largest private holder of permitted groundwater rights in the United States. Clean Energy Fuels Corp is advancing the use of natural gas as a cleaner-burning and more cost-effective transportation fuel alternative to gasoline and diesel.

In 2008, Pickens launched a $58-million national advertising campaign to publicize his energy plan, which also promotes building new wind generation facilities to produce 20 percent of America's electricity and using its domestic natural gas supply as transportation and power generation fuels.
