Four finalists for IU Kokomo chancellor position to visit campus

KOKOMO, Ind. -- Indiana University Kokomo has reached the finalist stage in the process of naming a new chancellor. Finalists for the position will visit the campus this month to meet with faculty, staff, students and community members. Following those visits, the university search committee that identified the finalists will meet again and make further recommendations to President Michael McRobbie. McRobbie will make the selection subject to approval by the IU Board of Trustees.

The campus visit dates and the finalists are:

"We are impressed with the quality of candidates and pleased to see the high level of interest in this search," said Nasser Paydar, chancellor at Indiana University East and chair of the search committee.

Balch has been at Indiana State University since 2001 and dean of the College of Education since 2006, where he is also a professor of educational leadership, administration and foundations. He was the superintendent of the Covington Community School Corporation from 1998-2001.

Harris has been provost and vice president for academic affairs at Kettering University since 2007 and is also a professor of public policy. He served as vice president for academic affairs at Ferris State University from 2004-2007 and as associate provost at Eastern Michigan University from 2000-2004. He received a doctorate from Indiana University in public policy.

Delap has been associate vice president for academic affairs at Jacksonville State University in Alabama since 2002, also serving there for more than a year as associate vice president for student affairs. Prior to that he was associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Central Arkansas. He received his doctorate in German Studies from Indiana University.

Fannin has been vice president for academic affairs at The University of Texas of the Permian Basin since 1996 where he is also a professor of management. He received the title of provost in 2004. From 1989 to 1996 he was dean of the College of Business at Idaho State University.

President McRobbie appointed the 12-member search committee in September 2009 to identify and interview candidates for the position. Former IU Kokomo Chancellor Ruth Person left the position in 2008 to become chancellor at the University of Michigan-Flint after serving since 1999. Stuart Green has been serving as interim chancellor since August 2008. He had formerly served as vice chancellor for the IU Kokomo Office of Academic Affairs.
