BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Tina Chong, piano student of Jacobs School Professor Arnaldo Cohen, won first place in the Canadian Music Competition's (CMC) 2010 Stepping Stone competition, which is open to all instruments.

In addition to $8,000, Chong receives a demo produced and recorded by Radio-Canada, with highlights heard on Espace musique, a three-week residency at the Banff Centre and a solo appearance with the CMC Orchestra at the gala concert on July 5, 2010.

One of the competition's finalists will also have the opportunity to perform in a concert presented by Jeunesses Musicales of Canada.

"I feel so happy and fortunate to have been recognized for my efforts," said Chong. "I'm especially grateful for Professor Cohen's constant dedication to my musical growth."

"Tina is an outstanding musician and a fabulous pianist," said Cohen. "She fully deserves this reward, not only for her talent but also for her incredible hard work. We should be very proud to have her among us."

The Stepping Stone competition is one of the programs of the CMC and one of the country's most important artistic events, allowing the finest young Canadian musicians to participate in a high-level national competition in conditions comparable to those found in leading international competitions.
