BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana Institute on Disability and Community at Indiana University is joining ADA-Indiana and the Indiana Governor's Council for People with Disabilities to host Indiana's celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, an important civil rights law that was signed by President George Bush on July 26, 1990.

Local communities also are planning their own celebrations of the ADA anniversary. The following major events, all of which are free and open to the public, are being organized by the institute and its partners:

Videotaped "Stories of the ADA" from individuals who were instrumental in Indiana's early implementation of the act and from current advocates are available at https://www.youtube.com/adaindiana. Additionally, a national "2010 by 2010 Anniversary Campaign," spearheaded by the National Network of ADA Centers, is gathering proclamations from local and state entities in support of the ADA. The goal is to obtain 2,010 proclamations.
