BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Indiana University alumni will gather in Bloomington to celebrate the "Legend of Old IU" during Homecoming 2004 events Oct. 29-30.

Festivities will begin Oct. 29 with the 46th annual Homecoming Parade. IU Olympians will serve as grand marshals. The parade will form on Rose Avenue next to Willkie Quad, between Third and Seventh streets, and begin at 5:30 p.m. Turning right onto East Third Street, it will advance to Indiana Avenue and end at the Sample Gates.

A pep rally will follow at 6:30 p.m. in front of the Sample Gates, at the corner of Indiana and Kirkwood avenues. IU President Adam Herbert and IU Football Coach Gerry DiNardo will be joined by the IU team captains, the cheerleaders, the RedSteppers, the pom squad and the Marching Hundred to prepare fans for Saturday's game against Minnesota.

During pre-game and halftime ceremonies on Oct. 30, the 2004 homecoming king and queen will be introduced, and winners of the float and window-painting contests will be announced. The Marching Hundred alumni band and alumnae RedSteppers will perform, and 50-year I-Men will be honored.

Tickets for the game can be purchased through the IU Athletics Ticket Office. For more information or to purchase tickets, call 812-855-4006 or 866-IUSPORTS.

Alumni and friends also are invited to the 17th annual Homecoming Lunch on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Gladstein Fieldhouse, east of Assembly Hall. The location is a change from past years, when the event was held at the Mellencamp Pavilion.

A brief program will begin around 11:30 a.m. and will include entertainment provided by the Craig Brenner Trio, the IU Singing Hoosiers, the IU cheerleaders, and the alumni band. Speakers will include IU Alumni Association President and CEO Ken Beckley, IU President Herbert, IU Bloomington Chancellor Ken Gros Louis, IU Athletics Director Rick Greenspan, IU Foundation President Curt Simic and IU Alumni Association Chairman P.T. Moore.

Tickets for the brunch, $12 for adults and $6 for children age 12 and under, are available at https://www.alumni.indiana.edu/Bloomington/homecoming/2004 or by calling the IU Alumni Association at 800-824-3044. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door.

Also on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., there will be an open house for all alumni and friends of IU at the Virgil T. DeVault Alumni Center, 1000 E. 17th St., across the street from Assembly Hall. Refreshments will be provided.

The annual Homecoming show features the Four Tops at the IU Auditorium on Saturday at 8 p.m. Tickets are available by calling the IU Auditorium at 812-855-1103.

Student groups will get into the Homecoming spirit at the "Yell Like Hell" spirit competition on Oct. 28, starting at 7:30 p.m. in Alumni Hall at the Indiana Memorial Union.

"Yell Like Hell," sponsored by the Student Alumni Association, offers students a jump-start on showing their spirit for Homecoming weekend. Participating groups prepare three-minute acts such as skits, dance routines, musical numbers and lip-syncing. The act with the most Homecoming spirit will be declared the winner. Four special acts will also be joining student groups to add to the excitement -- the popular a cappella performers Straight No Chaser and Ladies First as well as the RedSteppers and the nationally recognized IU pom squad. Admission is free, and the general public is invited to watch. For more information on "Yell Like Hell," contact the Student Alumni Association at 812-855-SAA1.
