The 2011 Tailgate Tour kicks off its annual trek around the state

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The IU Varsity Club and IU Alumni Association released the schedule for the annual IU Athletics Tailgate Tour.

The 2011 tour kicks off today (May 18) with an event in Indianapolis featuring new IU football coach Kevin Wilson.

"I am excited to kick off the tour this year," said Wilson. "Our staff is very fortunate to be here, and we look forward to visiting our fans across the state and talking some IU Football."

The Tailgate Tour is an opportunity for Hoosier fans to support IU Athletics and learn about the success of student-athletes both on and off the field. It also allows IU's head coaches to provide insights on the 2011-2012 athletic seasons.

Various athletic coaches will speak and tour events at seven additional Indiana stops through August. The 2011 tour will feature: Tom Crean (men's basketball), Kevin Wilson (football), Felisha Legette-Jack (women's basketball), Sherry Dunbar (volleyball), Ray Looze (swimming), Ron Helmer (track and field), Mike Mayer (men's golf), Todd Yeagley (men's soccer), Doug Mallory (football) and athletic director Fred Glass.

The tour is presented by the IU Varsity Club, IU Alumni Association and the I Association. "The tailgate tour is a can't miss time to see good friends and get the inside scoop from IU coaches," said J T. Forbes, Executive Director of the IU Alumni Association.

"In the past few years, we've set records with the number of Hoosier fans coming out for these events, said Fred Glass, Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. "I know I speak for all of the participating coaches when I say we really look forward to the Tailgate Tour every year. It's incredibly humbling to meet with so many amazing IU alumni and fans."

Each Tailgate Tour event will feature a reception or meal and program. Event times and prices vary for each event. Guests will also have an opportunity to purchase 2011 football season tickets at each tour stop.

• May 18, Indianapolis, The Rathskeller, 6:00 p.m. E.T.
• May 23, Merrillville, IN., location and time will be announced later
• May 25, South Bend, IN, Knollwood Country Club, 11:45 a.m. E.T.
• May 26, Evansville, IN, Oak Meadow Golf Club, 11:00 a.m. C.T.
• May 31, West Lafayette, IN, location and time will be announced later
• June 1, Jeffersonville, IN, Huber Winery , 6:00 p.m. E.T.
• June 2, Fort Wayne, IN, location and time will be announced later
• August 15, Bloomington, IN, DeVault Alumni Center, time will be announced later
