INDIANAPOLIS -- On three upcoming Fridays, high school students are invited to attend School of Science open houses at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis to learn more about courses that can lead to careers in the life and health sciences, computer, earth sciences, actuarial sciences, chemistry, physics, psychology and dozens of other fields.

Each information-packed day includes specially tailored sessions with students, faculty and advisers; lab and classroom tours; admissions information; and a campus or city tour. Parents are welcome to attend along with students.

Each open house is designed to show potential students what IUPUI has to offer, including funded undergraduate research opportunities, work/internship programs, free tutoring and peer mentorship, themed learning communities and opportunities offered on a dynamic urban campus shared with Indiana's only medical and dental schools.

"Coming to study science at IUPUI presents the opportunity to explore a unique path of experiences in the classroom with top-notch professors, and in labs, clinics and other settings that prepare students, often with paid internships, for the world beyond college," said Simon Rhodes, dean of the School of Science at IUPUI and professor of biology. "Our students come to IUPUI ready to explore and leave prepared for a workforce that is increasingly called upon to be science-focused."

The School of Science at IUPUI brings teachers, researchers and students from throughout the state, around the Midwest, across the country and from other nations together with a vision linking outstanding, cutting-edge education with industry through internships, co-op opportunities and employment. Forty-three percent of current freshmen in the School of Science were in the top 10 percent of their high school class. Approximately a quarter of School of Science freshmen are minority or international students.

IUPUI is ranked third among national universities in the "Up-and-Comers" category in U.S. News & World Report's 2012 edition of Best Colleges.

A detailed schedule, map and registration form are located at 2011 School of Science @ IUPUI Open Houses. Spaces are limited, so early registration is encouraged.
