BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Hoosiers already know Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie is a rock 'n' roll fan, thanks to a 2011 guest DJ appearance where he spun his favorite tunes by the Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane and the Who.

Now he's sharing his interest in rock-themed cinema through his selections for the President's Choice Film Series at IU Cinema, for which he personally programs a film series each semester. This semester's selections include documentary films about Woodstock and rock legend Bob Dylan, as well as cinematic coverage of live concerts from Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.

"Rock 'n' roll has given voice to generations of performers and their fans, and has provided some of the seminal moments in the world's cultural history over the last half century, whether it be the phenomenon that was Woodstock or response to the poetic writings of Bob Dylan," McRobbie said. "Musical groups such as Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin have stood the test of time and remain as popular as they are iconic today. Beyond that, all the performers showcased in these films put on a show worth seeing by anyone who enjoys great music."

For this year's President's Choice series, IU Cinema will screen four films:

"President McRobbie has once again proven his eclectic taste, having previously programmed series here featuring the work of Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa, Australian films from the '70s and other international classics," IU Cinema director Jon Vickers said. "The Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd films have had very few theatrical screenings and will be great fun to see on the cinema's big screen. As a fellow fan of these rock icons, I'm looking forward to the whole series."

Tickets for all films in the series are $3 each. Tickets can be purchased at the IU Auditorium Box Office from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; one hour before any screening at the cinema; or by phone at 812-855-1103 for a $10 service fee per order.
