Dan Bureau receives outstanding volunteer award from the Association of Fraternity Advisors

During the 2006 Association of Fraternity Advisors Annual Meeting in New Orleans, Indiana University Bloomington student Dan Bureau received the Outstanding Volunteer Award from the Association of Fraternity Advisors.

The Outstanding Volunteer Award recognizes members who have exceeded expectations in their service to the association. These individuals have been integral in implementing the association's strategic plan, followed through with commitments and have made achievements beyond the scope of their position descriptions.

Dan Bureau is a doctoral student at Indiana University in the Higher Education Student Affairs program. He works as a graduate assistant for the National Survey of Student Engagement. He served the association in numerous capacities in 2006: as the Associate Editor of Oracle: The Research Journal of the Association of Fraternity Advisors, a member of the Perspectives Editorial Board, and AFA's liaison to the National Hazing Prevention Week and National Hazing Symposium. His research interests include leadership identity development, strategic planning, organizational development, fraternity and sorority engagement outcomes and higher education association management. He is a national consultant on fraternity and sorority life issues and leadership development for CAMPUSPEAK.

Bureau's nominator describes him as a self-motivating person who quickly responded to any requests for assistance. He is also described as thinking outside the box without compromising his personal ethical standards.

The Association of Fraternity Advisors (AFA) is a professional organization that represents over 1,400 fraternity and sorority professionals from across the United States and Canada.
