IU's commencement week set for May 10-16

On seven days in May, on eight Indiana University campuses, 14,889 graduates will be eligible to receive IU degrees. This year, the university's commencement week will run from May 10 to May 16.

Commencement at IU Bloomington will begin the celebration of academic success and achievement on Saturday, May 10. Again this year, commencement will be held at Assembly Hall and will be split into two ceremonies, at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Richard Lugar, Indiana's senior U. S. senator, will address the graduates and their friends and families at both ceremonies.

IUPUI's commencement will be held on May 11 at 3 p.m. at the RCA Dome. IU Southeast will hold commencement on May 12 at 6:30 p.m. EDT in the IUS Amphitheater; IU Kokomo on May 13 at 1:30 p.m. at the east side of the Kelly Student Center; IU South Bend on May 13 at 6 p.m. at Notre Dame's Joyce Center; IPFW on May 14 at 7 p.m. in Fort Wayne's Memorial Coliseum; IU Northwest on May 15 at 6 p.m. at the Genesis Center in Gary; and IU East at 6 p.m. on May 16 at the Tiernan Center on the campus of Richmond High School.

IU Bloomington will award 6,742 degrees. Other campuses will award the following number of degrees, including Purdue University degrees awarded on campuses that have Purdue programs: IUPUI, 4,540 (Indianapolis, 3,649 IU, 825 PU; Columbus, 7 IU, 59 PU); IU East, 252 (233 IU, 19 Purdue); IPFW, 1,517 (908 IU, 609 Purdue); IU Kokomo, 447 (408 IU, 39 Purdue); IU Northwest, 842; IU South Bend, 1,137 (1,102 IU, 35 Purdue); and IU Southeast, 1,037 (998 IU, 39 Purdue).

In Bloomington, the figures include degree candidates for May, June and August, as well as graduate students whose degrees have been or will be awarded on a monthly basis from January through July of this year. For all other campuses, these figures include degree recipients from December 2002, and degree candidates for May, June and August 2003. Also included are graduate students whose degrees have been or will be awarded on a monthly basis during the 2002-03 academic year.

Along with the undergraduate and graduate degree recipients, nine people will receive honorary degrees at five IU campuses. They include:
