IU African American Dance Company to present its annual studio concert on Dec. 9

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The African American Dance Company of Indiana University's African American Arts Institute will present its annual studio concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 9 in the Willkie Auditorium on the IU campus.

The African American Dance Company will present a fusion of dance styles and forms that explore movement and expression of the human condition of people of the African diaspora. The company's performance will draw from traditional movement styles and forms of dance from Africa and the New World.

Tickets are $3 and will be sold at the door.

The Studio Concert is a collaborative project with the credit-bearing ensemble, "Dance in the African Diaspora," in the Department of African American and African Diaspora Studies.

Dance company director Iris Rosa is a professor in the Department of African American and African Diaspora Studies. She has taught dance at the University of Ghana in Legon, Ghana, West Africa, and in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. She has studied Afro-Cuban dance and music in Havana, Matanzas, and Guantanamo, Cuba. She is a founding member of Sancocho: Music and Dance Collage, a performing ensemble featuring African diasporic music and dance based in the Indianapolis area.
