Martha Oakley is interested in the properties of coiled-coil proteins, a common motif in organisms of all types. She also studies phosphatidylinositides (e.g. PIP2 and PIP3), which are key regulators of many important cellular functions, including cytoskeletal dynamics, responses to hormones and growth factors, endocytosis, and apoptosis (cell death). Oakley is a senior fellow in the Indiana Molecular Biology Institute.
