Jane Fulcher

Background:

Jane Fulcher's research interests include 19th- and 20th- century music and society, French opera, music, and politics and music's relation to cultural theory.

She is the author of The Nation's Image: French Grand Opera as Politics and Politicized Art (Cambridge University Press), French Cultural Politics and Music from the Dreyfus Affair to the First World War (Oxford University Press), and The Composer as Intellectual Music and Ideology in France 1914-1940 (Oxford University Press). She is contributing editor of Debussy and His World (Princeton University Press).

Her articles have appeared in Musical Quarterly, Stanford French Review, Revue internationale de la musique française, 19th-Century Music, MGG, The Cambridge Opera Journal, Acta musicologica, Journal of the American Musicological Society, Journal of Musicology, Annales, and others.

Professor Fulcher has received fellowships for individual research from the American Council of Learned Societies, National Endowment for the Humanities, The Institute for Advanced Study, Wissenschafts Kolleg (Berlin), Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, and the National Humanities Center.

She was named Edward T. Cone Member in Music Studies at the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, New Jersey for 2003-2004.

She is a visiting professor at Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris.
